What Is This Thing in the Sky?

By John Farrier in Blogs & Internet, Pictures on Jan 26, 2010 at 9:21 am

The Geekologie writer suggests that this mysterious object in the sky of a Google Street View image is the hole from which the “Four Unicornmen of the Apocalypse” will emerge. It’s from outside of Porto, a city in northern Portugal town in western Spain.

What do you think that it is?

UPDATE: There is a city in northern Portugal called Porto and a town in western Spain called Porto. Which one is it? A ferocious debate rages in the comments.

It’s something on the camera lense, for sure. A bug of some sort.

I may say that’s not Portugal, but Spain. Galicia, more precisely. :-)

I know it’s boring, but that’s obviously something on the camera lens or a stitching error.

You only have to go one step West and the glitch is over top of the overhead signpost, not behind it as something in the sky would be.

It’s obviously a splat of water on the lens, or the lens covering

It’s actually in Spain, in the province of Galicia (?), much nearer from the town of Vigo than from Porto, Portugal.

This is definitely in Portugal. It’s a good thing Google maps has a nice “zoom out” feature so we can verify whether the splat on the bubble is in Portugal (that lil country on the left) or in Spain (that big one on the right).

sometimes when you bump a bug on your windshield there is some kind of phlegm left, the kind that takes much spraying to get rid of. I’ll bet that’s what it is.

i like the horsemen angle, but it needs be said: Porto is definitively in Portugal:

The glitch(es – check out the bluish hole to the nether region down the road) are in spain though.

Wow. That is not even near Porto. Also, if you move up and down the street, you’ll see that it’s something stuck on the lens.

“It’s from outside of Porto, a city in northern Portugal town in western Spain.”

Portugal Is a country, just like Spain or England. A Common mistake that shows world education is poor. Really poor. And people don’t mind being ignorant. That’s scary.

Fools1 You are all mistaken! It is the inter dimensional portal through which the almighty Flying Spaghetti Monster will enter this world and usher forth a New Age of noodliness! In his name we pray, Ramen.

well, i don’t know if it’s in porto, in xinzo da limia or in porto do son, but obviously porto is a portuguese city, not “a town in western spain”…

  36. Bjorn Pal
    Jan 27th, 2010 at 9:45 am

    Goddamit!

Porto is a town/city in Portugal; it’s the second largest population centre, with about 1.7 million people living in it’s greater metropolitan area.
You can find some information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porto

    Portugal is a country: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portugal

  37. John Farrier

There is a town in Spain called Porto and a city in Portugal called Porto.

  38. NC
    Jan 27th, 2010 at 12:31 pm

Again? This Isn’t near Porto, neither Porto is in Spain. This is near Xinzo de Limia, wich is a Town in Spain. Porto, Spain is a small village (doesn’t even appear on map if you just zoom out), and it’s near Sanabria. Just zoom out for god’s sake. And if you zoom out you see that this isn’t western spain. It’s northwest spain.
I just hopped that google maps would help some people learn something about geography.

This is obviously a picture of the dimensional rift where all the missing links on the internet go to hide. When it gets close to full capacity it becomes visable briefly.

If you actually click through to the map and twist it around you can see a green thing in the sky. It’s not on the lens because if you pass the location, it disappears. It’s important to note that it is raining, but the fact that the clouds are pink and green as well prove that it’s not on the camera, it is indeed in the sky.
