“No Kicking Penguins”

By Minnesotastan in Everything Else on Jan 24, 2010 at 10:16 am

An autistic Canadian second-grader has created a meme that has traveled to Antarctica, where scientists in a British research facility have posted the image and declared it to be “official policy in Antarctica.”

In October, [Michelle Chipman] was walking down the hall when she kicked an inflatable penguin — which had been won at the Regatta — out of her way.  Seven-year-old Colby… promptly advised her that kicking penguins was prohibited.  He left the room for a minute, returned requesting Scotch Tape and then posted a hand-drawn sign — a woman kicking a penguin, in a circle with a diagonal line through it (as in a No Smoking sign).  Written around the image was the decree Colby had issued earlier — “No kicking penguins.â€

The popularity of the sign and the message has resulted in the creation of t-shirts, proceeds from the sale of which are being used for the benefit of autism societies.

    you know how a lot of parents look at artwork and say, “My kid could do better than that!”

    i guess now we have proof.

    Bekka, I guess we also have proof that someone with a brain the size of a walnut spells their name b-e-k-k-a. You are pretty brave sitting behind your keyboard picking on a small autistic boy — shame on you! I pray that you are not a mother, for some poor child’s sake.

    But I am a Detroit Red Wings fan and the kicking of penguins is a tradition we all enjoy. I won’t give it up! Penguins are just evil. Uncool. And they smell. Penguins *NEED* to be kicked. They also need to be stomped, hooked, slashed, tripped, high-sticked and body-checked whenever possible.

    Make ‘em bleed and shove ‘em in the box!

    Love,
    dooflotchie (Proud Penguin Hater!)

    Nice post, I hope this story will be buzzed because at the moment the raised funds are only about 200 bucks.

    @Zig…

    WHOA! let’s stop the crazy train for just a minute. i was in no way making fun of that little boy. i think his sign is just about the greatest thing ever and i’m still rather confused as to how my statement could be viewed as a jab towards him. but i guess some people just enjoy getting upset over nonexistent implications. oy vey…

    Bekka,
    re-read your post again and tell me how it couldn’t be interpreted that way. but I guess some people just enjoy backpeddling when called out over existent implications. uvy…..

    Zig there was no intended jab there. She was pointing out how the child “did better” than some hypothetical artwork of questionable quality with a simple drawing that has gained international fame.

    @zig
    You are an idiot. I am not even going to explain Bekka’s comment as I doubt you would understand. Go troll somewhere else.
