Fire Hydrant Blocked … by Parking Authority Van!

By Alex in Auto & Transportation, Crime & Law on Dec 9, 2009 at 3:03 pm

When a fire truck responded to an emergency call in Philadelphia, firemen found that access to a fire hydrant was blocked by … the Philadelphia Parking Authority van!

The visibly perturbed firefighters politely asked the PPA agent — who sprinted back to her vehicle with the quickness once she realized how terrible she was about to look — to move the van, to which she responded something along the lines of, "I was only there for a second, I’ll move it right away!" Strange, I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere before.

Oh, the irony! Link (Photo: Drew Lazor) – via Reddit

    Talk about being in the right job. It’s also the same reason you don’t marry a divorce lawyer.

    If it is a life and death situation why don’t they just shove the offending vehicle out of the way with the fire truck. Why waste time looking for the owner??

    My dad told me stories of when he was a fire fighter in Toronto, about cars in front of hydrants. If they found a car blocking a hydrant and the windows were open, they would run the hose right though one side and out the other before hooking it up. The car would be blocked for quite a while and would be a little wet after.

    @ukanduit

    Actually the firefighter has to request they move their vehicle first, and if they ignore that request, they are fined on the spot. I like the method CME’s dad used more though.

    Why bother trying to comprehend the article when you can just spout off about the situation?

    @Wes

    Your absolutely right. My sincerest apologies.

    Reminded of Bill Murray’s movie “Quick Change” — would have been nice to see the PPA van given that treatment.

    Did it surprise anyone when they story revealed it was a woman driving the van?
