The Fork Art of Matthew Bartik

New York City-based artist Matthew Bartik began bending forks while in dining halls at college. His first formal sculpture, which he created for an art class assignment, was a goldfish aquarium made from forks and glass. But he's now been able to move out of the cafeteria and is producing fork art full-time. Pictured above is an example from Bartik's figure study portfolio: a representation of a photographer.

This is quite amazing. I never would have considered the versatility possible when starting with a single simple item to make this many different forms. I love the man with chainsaw sculpture.

I actually met Matthew outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC about a year ago. He had a table set up there where he was selling his sculptures and making new ones.

There were a lot of tables out there that day, but his was the only one that made me want to stop and have a conversation with the artist.

If you can afford to, buy some stuff from him. He's obviously talented, and he's a really nice guy.
