Personal Branding Iron

By Miss Cellania in Gadgets, Hacks & Mods on Dec 2, 2009 at 10:09 am

This company will make a tiny branding iron with your name on it! The product is a metal part that will replace the head of a disposable cigarette lighter. Fire up the lighter, and your branding iron will be hot in no time. Yes, it sounds dangerous, that’s why the description says “for decorative purposes only.” What could possibly go wrong? Perfect for cattle-like branding on small pets.

Perfect for our internet youtube generation and their incessant need to be “creative” and “free thinkers.”

Mark my words, I predict a lawsuit from some idiot that used this and gets horrible burns/infections in no time.

Yup, I can see the market for these with rapist serial killers who like to mark their victims.

… Probably a lot of money in that.

I used to have something similar for marking tools, only you had to hit it with a hammer which wasn’t suitable for lots of things. Most of my power tools have our postcode burnt deeply into them with a soldering iron.

For branding school things like rulers and calculators – splendid.

Worrying that everyone so far has thought of it being used on flesh.

So the branding marks are to be used merely for decorating the skin and not as actual property marking for identification? Alright.

I think it would be cool for labeling things.

It might even be fun to label meat with. So that way, the pieces cooked the way I like them would have my name on them and the ones cooked like my hubby likes them could have his name on them (or be un-branded).

I worry that people will use this thing for graffiti, though, and brand things that don’t belong to them, like park benches, etc.

I wouldn’t recommend this to brand people or pets with for two reasons: it will not reach the temperatures required (read: red hot) and it is too detailed to leave anything but an amorphous blom in terms of scarring.

I can just see these being used to melt tags into bus and train plexiglass windows… More companies catering to the vandal lifestyle.

I had a brass branding iron made that I use for marking furniture I make. Says Hand Crafted by James B* and has removable date digits. This looks like it would get hot enough for wood or leather, or cotton textiles like denim or canvas. Or you could get a satanic symbol and burn your own face.

“It puts the branding on the skin, or else it gets the hose again.”
