Swine Flu Collector Mask

By John Farrier in Medicine on Nov 30, 2009 at 9:19 am

This protective mask, designed by Michel Bussien and Erik Sjödin, was not designed to protect the user from the H1N1 virus. Instead, it will improve the user’s odds of getting infected. A small battery-powered fan in the INFLU mask sucks in air, increasing the possibility of infection several hundred percent. Supposedly, this device can be used to strengthen one’s immune system.

    I suppose, if you're in desperate need to use up your sick days at work.

    Not sure if it is art, but it will actually decrease the chance of breathing in anything but clean air.

    Or you can just lick railings, door handles, and shopping cart bars. Free, easy, and you will look less weird.

    An old style toilet flush handle in a train station is where the real action is.

    That is a desperate way to boost immunity. Who knows that it won't kill you first. :d

    And let's not forget, the real danger is not necessarily to oneself. Once you pick up the virus, you can spread it to others, and they may not be so fortunate. A woman from my mother's church actually perished because of complications caused by H1N1, leaving behind a thirteen year old son (a friend of my sister) who now has no idea what will become of him. She was only forty four.

    I was kind of indifferent to the whole issue until this happened. People just don't realise that it isn't just about their own health and wellness.

    Hey, you know what else I've heard can boost your immune system? A VACCINATION.

    Wouldn't this be considered terrorism, since you are purposley trying to get infected? It is inevitable that you will spread the germ, so you are in effect a terrorist.

    I feel like just not washing your hands would be much more effective. And cheaper.

    @Russell 'Bacon' Senior

    Only if once you have the virus you run around spitting at people it would be considered a health threat, but the act of trying to get infected, that would just be categorized under "stupidity".

    Not sure it changes anything much... you breathe in the same amount of air whether or not a fan is blowing in your face.
