Good list but missing two classics; Sly’s Lock Up and Tom Selleck’s An Innocent Man.
I haven’t seen either of them in over 10 years so they could be shit now, still, I’ll stick with them out of stubbornness

I agree with Douglas, how the heck can they leave out American Me? That has to be one of the more ‘real’ prison movies out there.

While The Rock may be a stretch, I can think of a few other movies. Down By Law, Empire of the Sun, Caged Heat, Lockdown, Rio Bravo, I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang.

And I too was glad to see my top two in the top two.

As soon as I saw “prison movies” Cool Hand Luke popped into my mind and danged if it ain’t No. 1. I’ve been using Strother Martin’s “failure to communicate” line for years.
