Oh yes indeed. A rare one in New Guinea was eaten (the second known example of the species), and the people there regularly feast upon them.

They are very cute when you find them in the wild. Instead of trying to run away, they get scared and roll into a little ball, quivering with fear.

..their not so cute at 1:00 AM when two dogs decide to try to dig one out from under a fence… the dogs were OK and so was the Echidna.. and nowhere near this tiny.. this one was the size of a house cat and determined not to be chased off by two Siberian Huskies!

Needless to say it made for a sleepless night!

Theres something about mammals that are always going to be cute to me. These two little guys are like brown spikey potatoes… and yet… still cute.
If they were a type of fish, or insects I’d be repulsed by now, but being mammals they get the green light no matter what. I wonder if some part of our brain keeps a “no matter what” mamailian family bond. Hmmm. weird.
