Sorry, had to down vote.
The slums of the million or so workers that suffer just for a daily meal take any interest of Dubai right out of it for me.
I’ve been to the Skybridge that’s halway up Petrona’s Tower and that was high enough. It’s a great view but that superfast elevator ride can turn your stomach. (the only comparison is the train at Atlanta airport)
Don’t confuse Dubai with its physical image; The workers Tim speaks of have a story that isn’t fully told, but scary enough.
Haha! I love how people have already engraved their names on top of the spire!
damn i could not go up there! thats high. Wonder when the first basejumper will try it. (and get trown in a prison for that)
It wasn’t scary enough. He should have braced the camera so we could have gotten a sense of the sway. I might have thrown up. But he didn’t, so I didn’t. Wasted opportunity. He should have dropped the camera into a fishing net held by one of his buddies on the ground. That would have been cool. Sometimes I dream about being up in a really tall building, and it sways like my drunken grandma. I fall to the floor, claw at the carpet and scream like a girl. Doesn’t happen in real life though. I don’t know how to interpret dreams.
some people talk about dubai as if they know it, it has its pros and cons, but its a pretty damn good place to live and work in.
It seems anything to do with human progress and innovation brings out the naysayers, lucky for us you are not in charge.
It is kind of funny. Those rich dorks are spending all there money, and once they run out of oil, they will have a giant empty tower surrounded by useless empty land.
I half expected him to base jump from that building when I first saw the harness he was wearing over his shoulders. Maybe next time.
