Origins of Life

Hulu, which I understand is not available to the whole world (apologies), has a great video by Gerald Calderon.  It's quite possibly the best explanation of the origin of life ever presented on film.  The art direction, the narration, the whole 40 minute production really sums up the scientific record, and is full of win.

15 billion years ago the Universe just suddenly was. 5 billion years ago, the Earth and Sun formed a healthy bond.  Then things started getting interesting.  Single celled organisms, coral, and amazing advancements though the millenia are represented here.  600 million years ago was when transfer of genes through sex became the new fad, and diversity took over.  400 million years ago, life started flourishing on dry land.

This is seriously some of the best underwater footage we've ever seen.  Highly recommended if you've ever wanted to see an octopus eat a same-sized crab.

It's not your fault that Hulu can't be arsed to get on with making their service international.

And I haven't seen any evidence that they've even tried; if they were serious about it, they'd have it rolled out at least in Canada and Europe by now. But they haven't, because they aren't going to.

So when a producer chooses to distribute their documentary online through Hulu, they have decided they don't want an international audience. Too bad, because I would have watched the whole thing, if it had been on some other service. Stick ads in it and put it on Vimeo. put it in the Itunes store for 6 bucks. Whatever.

I suppose I could buy the disk for 12 bucks, or wait until it comes around in the rotation at my local Imax theatre. I actually would reall ylike to see it.

Hi Mr Cat,

No need to ever apologise. In reference to my less than erudite and perhaps oblique post, let me add:

1: is a bizarre cross reference to the stupidity of the ID (intelligent designers) who obviously can't spell and to our noodly friend who drank heavily before he invented the universe. Yep I was sober when I posted and that is just me.
2: any pointers on the Hulu vid? Director, country, company, talking head as maybe I can find a link elsewhere.

ps: I have always liked that kitty image you use.

i bet if you could find a mediafire file of the film if you googled it proper.

i wonder if hulu isn't international due to differing legal standards?

and lastly i call bull cocky on "15 billion years ago the Universe just suddenly was."

raise the roof for steady state theory.

"Hulu, which I understand is not available to the whole world"

According to Hulu, the only part of the world where it is visible is the US. So yes, the whole world can't see it, apart from the US. Sucks.

"raise the roof for steady state theory."

I certainly hope you're joking.

There are plenty of physicists debating what, if anything, was here before the big bang, what banged, and so on. None of them can be considered steady-state. That debate was settled long ago.

Why post something which is only available to specific readers?

Posting a video which requires a subscription wouldn't work for Neatorama. So why post something from Hulu, where a paid subscription isn't even possible?
