Andreas Dober’s wall clock for the German luxury shop Anthologie Quartett cycles a bicycle chain to display the hour with copper digits at the top. A custom job, it prices out at $2,338.

    Dang, that is way cool -- but also priced about 10x what it would seem to be worth, given it's a simple motor, a housing, and a bicycle chain.

    I compliment the design, but I could make one for about 20 bucks that includes a minute and second chain.

    First thing my son said when he saw the price was "Hey, we could make dozens and sell them at half that and still make a good profit."

    I explained that stealing someone else's idea to make money was immoral, but he didn't seem convinced.

    Awesome idea... One could easily make their own. Judging from the photo, the artist used the minute hand to drive the chain. The sprocket appears to make a complete rotation for every hour, which would mean that its the minute drive being used.
