Big Ben on Twitter

Big Ben, the London clock tower, Westminster Palace clock tower bell, has a Twitter account. Online, it says the same thing it has always said in real life. The account was opened as a statement on the banality of Twitter, but Big Ben now has over six thousand followers! Come to think of it, this IS handy if you want to know what time it is in London. I'll be the first pedant to point out that big ben is the bell not the tower....

though blatantly everyone means the tower when they say big ben... so it's a bit of a moot point

The only comment neccesary is...WTF. I don't need a national landmark on Twitter. (Tower of Pisa? oh I'm going to fall. Whew. Not yet. AAAAHHH. Sorry false alarm still standing. Hey Eiffel you suck.)

When the British Monarchy first became a twitter account, I followed them for exactly this reason, they tended to post their updates every hour on the hour exactly. So I could tell when an hour had passed when reading my tweets.

Now, with Ben here, I know what time it is for all the Brit Twits I follow.

Its about 10 feet tall and back in the days before TV and nice cars people took pride in things like having a very large bell. The Great Bell is referred to as "Big Ben". While it is acceptable to call the tower/clock/bell unit "Big Ben" to refer to either the clock or the tower alone as "Big Ben" is incorrect.

At least make it interesting - the London Bridge is on Twitter and talks smack about other bridges and people crossing the bridge.

actually im sure big ben is not the name of the clock or the tower but the name of the bell that rings inside. I was always told its westminster tower, and westminster clock...

The name Big Ben actually refers to the clock's hour bell, the largest of the clock's five bells, the others being used as quarter bells......nice info shared thnks

Big Ben, one of the world's largest four-faced clocks, is also one of London's most famous landmarks. The name, which originally referred to the hour bell, was given in honor of Sir Benjamin Hall, the commissioner of works when the bell was installed in 1856.its a great heritage
