Not surprising, though, that there should be confusion between singular and plural in a story like this.

Well, if we’re quibbling, Miss C, your first sentence refers to the Cornish Duck Company and its eggs. The second sentence then switches to “they”.

Alternately, you could say “The tireless egg-checkers at the Cornish Duck Company”, or perhaps “The unsung heroes of the egg inspection line in the Cornish Duck Company”.
