Hollywood's Top Villains

Posted by Alex in Movies & SciFi on October 12, 2009 at 2:51 am

Forget heroes. I find villains much more interesting. Here’s a wonderful montage titled: Heart of Darkness, a Montage, Cinema’s Top Human Villains, by YouTube user hh, listing 45 of the best (worst?) Hollywood baddies.

The music, East Hastings by Goodpseed You! Black Emperor, certainly contributed much to the awesomeness of the clip.

I’m glad that Kathy Bates’ character Annie Wilkes from the movie Misery made the list. Who do you think is the best Hollywood villain?

    Awesome...indeed!

28 Days later inspired me to look up GSYBE and have been listening to their limited collection of music ever since. However the amount of bands that formed because of them is incredible.

I'm glad you had Nurse Ratched in there, as well as the Robert Mitchum character from "Night of the hunter". These are two of my favorites.

I always thought Warden Norton from "The Shawshank Redemption" was a really good villain.

    ...or am I being obtuse?

Alex deLarge may have started out as a criminal, but by the end he was most definitly a victim of the state. If anyone missed that they might need to go back and read/watch it again.

Great video! I love how the song was all instrumental.

There's a lot of debate going around about the snubbing of Darth Vader and Khan. Still, a near-perfect grouping.

Oh, and here's a list of all the villains/actors/movies.

Just a slight disagreement, Alexander De Large was no victim of anything, especially in the movie. I mean, that was the entire point of the movie, that you can't change someone's inherent nature. He was evil through and through. The book, on the other hand, offered a more sympathetic version of Alex thanks to the excised last chapter.

Some memorable evil, cinema bastards I love to hate:
    Gary Oldman in Leon/The Professional,
John Lithgow in Ricochet and Cliffhanger,
    Joe Pesci in Goodfellas,
Henry Fonda in Once upon a time in the West.

Only two villains literally gave me a sick feeling in my stomach, many years ago:
Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man and
Mark Rydell in The Long Goodbye.

I was glad to see Dr. Hannibal Lecter on that list, but I think Jame Gumb ("Buffalo Bill" from the same movie) would have been a fair selection in addition to the good Doctor.
