Turning a Staircase into a Piano

This Volkswagen commercial is about one effort to get people to take the stairs instead of the escalator (presumably for the exercise). The company turned a staircase at a Stockholm subway station into a piano and videotaped how travelers responded.

In America, sadly this would be considered a liability (what if the people fall off? Will they sue?)

I would say the uniqueness caused significantly more of the change than the fun.

    This made me happy.

Other than the music It doesnt seem any different than a regular staircase Alex but I guess people here sue even when they fall down non musical stairs.

    Interesting idea.

This would likely create more loitering. And then more people being annoyed by the noise, because I bet it doesn’t sound as nice as the fancy music they played throughout most of that video, especially with a crowd on it.

You know how to encourage people to take the stairs?

    TURN OFF THE ESCALATOR.

Thing is, Bob, some people can’t make it up the stairs, particularly if they have a shopping cart in tow.

I work in an Australian stair company, and we’re all about making them beautiful to try and attract people too them. Perhaps we should focus on making them wacky instead!
