Things The 80’s Child Shouldn’t Have Thrown Out

Posted by Queuebot in Fashion on September 13, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I knew my mom was dead wrong when she said leg warmers would never come back and made me throw them out. That’ll be $20 for the replacements, mom.

Here’s an article at Fashion-Victim blog about 20+ fashion from the 80s that are making a comeback. For instance, take the Slap Bracelets:

I used to have a collection of these self-harming accessories, including my very own New Kids on the Block one. They were popular among pre-teens and teens in the late 80’s but were eventually banned from schools after many students suffered wrist injuries. Now that enough time has elapsed and people have forgotten the potential dangers of arm jewelry that once splayed open a kid’s artery, slap bracelets are back!

Were slap-bracelets dangerous? The schools here give away reflective ones as the dark evenings come.

since when did BMX - whether flatland, racing, or ramp-riding, go out of style?

Yep, I remember slap bracelets. Used to have a few of them. Wore them out until the metal started to cut through the fabric on the outside.
Also had the jelly bracelets & the only shoes I ever wore for a looooong time were those cheap as hell Jelly shoes. They broke all over the place, but my little butt wore them with glee heh.

Hah, I think I have a few of those slap bracelets hiding somewhere in a toybox. Gotta love how worthless this crap was we worshiped as kids.

keds, converse and bmx never went out of style.

I recently saw a slap bracelet watch in a catalog for the elderly and disabled. It was designed so people with trouble manipulating buckles and such could easily put the watch on.

Can we please stop bringing 80's/early 90's fashion back? It was hideous then and it's even worse now.

My school banned slap bracelets because we went around hitting each other with them. Also, I remember the edges hurting my wrists after a length of wearing them.

Looks like some people can't tell the difference between parachute pants (or balloon trousers) and DHOTI PANTS (its precursor). I could assure you that parachute pants aren't making a comeback, but dhoti pants are becoming a trend.

Also, some of these apply to the early 90s too.
