Post #10 had it right it is based on atomic elements not molecules. So we are mostly water which is two H for every O but every O has 8 protons and every H only has 1. As already explained, individual elements and not compounds or chemical substances… of which water is one.

By 65% Oxygen and 10% Hydrogen, it puts you roughly in the ballpark of 60% water, which is what the average human contains. (Halve Hydrogen because two bond with oxygen to make water)
