New Batteries for Electric Cars Could Last Ten Times Longer

Bet the designers will get pushed by the marketing department to make them go faster instead of further.

There is a lot of interest in the lithium iron phosphate batteries produced by Chinese automaker BYD. They are cheaper and last longer than lithium-ion, and they're safer (don't explode, even under crash conditions). They are, however, heavier.

How is it you can say you know how to do something, but can't do it for another ten years?

I would never buy a electric car or even a hybrid electric car. They are not worth the money and especially not worth the cost of repair.

Hydrogen vehicles are safer and can get better mileage plus they produce 0 emissions. They just need to stop with the hydrogen fuel cell thing. That is just pointless and make the cost go even higher. Just strap a few tanks on the car an go. They are not going to explode unless you have some extreme heat.

On a plus side is current vehicles can be converted to run hydrogen. There is no need to go out and buy a whole new car. Just get a conversion kit and run hydrogen instead. Oil companies plus the government are really the only people stopping it because of what it will do to the economy. It will destroy an industry and take away a huge amount of money from the government. People would not be able to take a +$1 tax on a fuel source that can be made at home.

The university, by the way, is Tohoku University (not Tohuku, as incorrectly posted in the original). It's one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Japan.

Television existed before WW2, but it took quite a long time to develop it to general consumption. I think we are at the end of the gasoline era, I think the exponential growth in technology will bring it about sooner than ten years. Hydrogen or Electric, we will be seeing bluer skies.

And where does all that environmentally friendly hydrogen come from? Like bioethanol, it currently takes more energy to produce hydrogen then hydrogen provides as a fuel.
