To break this code, you must locate the “YAR”s and replace them with the letter directly above them. The final decrypting is the word “SKULL”. And the magic number is 18. Each question mark ends up as a letter as does a white tile in wheel of fortune. Only two letters require the key.

Search KRYPTOS in Facebook’s search engine and scroll to the bottom. A Sean McGann appears to have broken the code and believes it to be a tribute to Edgar Allen Poe. Never More.

The solution to the K1 riddle:

BETWEEN SUBTLE SHADING AND THE ABSENCE OF LIGHT LIES THE NUANCE OF IQLUSION

A subtle shading is a HUE.

The absence of light could refer to NHODR (n\nHodr\nNorse (Scandinavian) god of winter and darkness).

Now look at the clear text solution in its matrix or spacing (try John’s Kryptos site http://www.austininc.com/SciRealm/KryptosDetails.html).

Looking at the clear-text matrix, find the vertical words HUE and the NHODR. They will be in the seventh vertical Colum of the matrix starting with the word “BETWEEN”.

Between the HUE and the NHODR (NHODR has a “?” in it which is to be ignored) lies the nuance of illusion.

LION is the word that LIES (a cute play on words) between HUE and NHODR.

The beginning of the Riddle was a set of directions to point you to the word LION and its two attached words LOCATION in the shape of an S.

The LION is a lead to the Great Sphinx, The Riddle of the Sphinx.

A very interesting read.

What does C.G. Jung’s anagram in his Septem Sermones ad Mortuos mean? I’m sure it must of been decoded by now, it was written in 1916.

@TSA – Kryptos has never been cracked publicly. The intelligence people are rumored to have cracked it a long time ago (after all, that’s what they do), but they’re not saying anything (after all, that’s also what they do).
