Posted by Alex in Blog & Internet on July 23, 2009 at 3:25 pm

AskMen has just released the results of their second annual Great Male Survey, involving more than 50,000 of their readers worldwide, to find out what the modern man is thinking about.

As with their first survey last year, some results are interesting and some are quite unexpected. For instance, here are the top 100 most interesting answers:

10. 38% – Own more than seven pairs of shoes
9. 78% – Require more than $1 million to retire comfortably
8. 77% – Think moral standards in business are on the decline
7. 84% – Think it’s important that a girlfriend have "wife potential"
6. 83% – Are actively environmentally friendly
5. 48% – Would dump a girlfriend if she became fat
4. 78% – Exaggerate in the sex stories they tell to friends
3. 36% – Are scared of terrorists
2. 83% – Surf the web on their phone
1. 91% – Believe in marriage

Check out the full survey result here: LinkThanks Daniel!

Yeah - perhaps it's "78% of men crass enough to share stories about their sexual exploits exagerate."

Where did you get the stats for the Neatorama blurb?

Just to mention a few, from the website, 75% of men believe in marriage and 48% of men would dump a girlfriend who became fat.

You should double check your figures.

    10. 38% - Own more than seven pairs of shoes

I own 1 pair of sneakers and a pair of steel toe boots.

    9. 78% - Require more than $1 million to retire comfortably

I could probably retire on less but it would involve a foreign magical land where things like milk dont cost 4+ dollars a gallon

    8. 77% - Think moral standards in business are on the decline

No really? Hey you give me two weeks notice that you are laying me off and Ill give you two weeks notice I am quitting.
    7. 84% - Think it’s important that a girlfriend have "wife potential"

Umm, I have been single for the better part of a decade by choice with little interest in NOT being single.
    6. 83% - Are actively environmentally friendly

so they throw their trash in the trash can then?
    5. 48% - Would dump a girlfriend if she became fat

    aka, are superficial.
    4. 78% - Exaggerate in the sex stories they tell to friends

    aka, are men.
    3. 36% - Are scared of terrorists

aka, are human or have watched too much TV and think that the terrur-ists are hiding around every corner.
    2. 83% - Surf the web on their phone

aka have a phone made in the last 4 years.
    1. 91% - Believe in marriage

Dude, I own more than seven pairs of *running* shoes. Next?

randomHandle - if you add together the positive responses for the "believe in marriage" question, the result is 91% said that they believe in marriage. The "would you dump her if she became fat" question is accurate, they list the larger number first. 52% said no 48% said yes.

You did make me take a closer look though and the "exaggerate about sexual stories" post was wrong, 78% said no and 22% said yes. That makes more sense in my experience anyway, Id say that its only about 2/10 guys that even share sexual stories so I guess its 100% of guys that share sex stories are exaggerating :D

Some of the differences in answers between countries are interesting

Yes, the difference in countries is interesting. I am female and some of the results do not follow my experiences of men. Perhaps it's the macho/male ego they posess, and when they take an anonymous survey, the truth comes out. I'd like to see this survey compared to a similar one taken by females.

@randomhandle - I got it straight out of the page linked (in the middle part of the page)

@star4589 - the female counterpart of the survey is hosted at Shine.

I "own" quite a few pairs of shoes, but I only actually use wellies, walking boots, sandals and "shoes" shoes. Oh, and a clean shiny pair for weddings, funerals and job interviews.

The rest are just hiding somewhere waiting to be thrown out 'cos they're knackered.

And 98% of AskMen readers are shallow twits.

    4) the other 22% are exaggerating about how they don't exaggerate their sex stories

@ Alex - I either had my eyes crossed when I read the post or it was changed.

I know realize the numbers in front of the statistics (1-10) made it appear that the statistics were off (i.e. 1.91% believe in marriage).

Sorry if the confusion was solely on my end.
