Niagara Falls in Motion is a wonderful time-lapse photography, shot over 3 nights in by Matthew Wartman (the video clip is made even more wonderful with The Winner Is, music by Mychael Danna and DeVotchKa)

Matthew sure likes doing time-lapse photography – check out his other works here (don’t miss the minute-long Morningstar Timelapse)

I loved how dreamlike that was – never wanted it to end.

There’s nothing more beautiful that taking a spectacular natural wonder, and putting coloured lights all over it. How American. Can you not go without looking at it at night? I’d rather wait.

“Can you not go without looking at it at night? I’d rather wait.”

Yes, you can go without looking at it at night. You go during the day.

That was simply dazzling. Tilt/shift meets Koyaanisqatsi almost.

Wait, are the lights American? It does border with Canada, so it is entirely possible that the lights are Canadian. That side of the falls is much nicer in the first place.
It’s really quite spectacular in the winter with ice everywhere and those colored lights at night.

Most of the lights are projected from the Canadian side of the falls. This film was kinda boring.

Ah, Niagara Falls. It’s a great place to visit during the day, however, I’ve never been there at night.

I mean ‘why can’t people wait until daylight. Actually see IT rather than the Canadian/American lights? Any lights really. I prefer the sun, is there any way of me seeing the sun?

I’ve been to the Falls multiple times. It’s never looked or sounded so peaceful. Thank you, Matthew.

Both the Canadian and American sides each have their own unique charms. This entire video was shot from the Canadian side, which is somewhat brash, touristy and fun in a carnival sense. The American side is much more natural and park-like, where you can see the spectacle with less man-made development. The lights are indeed projected from Canada and usually get turned off around midnight or so. While they are a bit tacky, they are completely necessary… without them, you can’t see a thing and can only appreciate the sound.

This is a wonderful video. Loved every moment of it. Makes me miss ‘home’ almost to the point of tears.
