@GeneAriani, you expect that even without pollution or overfishing, that creatures won't go extinct. It doesn't really matter if there wasn't pollution because many species of animals insects etc. go extinct more often than you'd think, without pollution or the like. So keep that in mind. The only constant is change. No one is really bragging about conservation, they are bringing awareness. At least people are trying to do something positive while something negative is happening, rather than dwelling and saying well if this didn't happen etc.

If we did not over fish and did not pollute, we did not need to brag about conserving. Go away Peat! No Go away dead animal flesh eaters.

I have fish in one of my tanks that are on the verge of extinction last I knew.

I am breeding them and will soon be moving them to a larger tank to try to get another group as well introduced to minimize inbreeding.

Should I just quit that and leave them to go extinct?

How about the fact that they arent breeding due to any introduced chemicals, just plenty of cover and as close to a natural habitat as I am able to make in my condo?

PETA people, go away!

This aquarium, and all other good aquariums (because there are bad ones, just like there are bad zoos) aid so much in education, conservation, and helping all those animals that otherwise might end up extinct. Most people don't understand the need to conserve the oceans and lakes and rivers and streams because they cannot appreciate the creatures that live there. These establishments give the average joe the chance to do that while studying the creatures to learn more about them and what our impact is doing to them.

Aquariums SAVE animals, not destroy them.

To you naysayers: Many species of animals would be extinct if it wasn't for zoos and aquariums taking special care of them, and giving the public the ability to appreciate them.

There is something unspeakably sad about seeing such majestic creatures constrained in this way. The life span of whale sharks kept under such conditions is drastically shortened from their expected norm. Keep that in mind while you goggle at this spectacle.

I went there, and it is insanely huge, and gorgeous too. They have other tanks before this that are pretty big too, so you end up looking at those first all impressed then you get to this one and it's even more amazing. It's a fun aquarium.

Looks like a prison yard where the inmates are slowing swirling round trying to look innocuous and hoping not to be in the wrong section of the tank when the inevitable fight breaks out.

It's unlikely there is any "natural" place where the mixed species fish density is that high.

I disagree with MadMolecule in saying that "Apparently the largest aquarium in the world is the Georgia Aquarium, in Atlanta." In all honesty, the world's largest aquarium would be all the ponds, lakes, oceans & seas...where the critters truly belong. Not behind glass being gawked at by uncaring humans.
