The World's First Projectile Taser

Taser International has developed an extended-range taser. It is a 12-gauge shotgun that shoots a shocking cartridge over 100 feet:

The teases have revealed little actual info, but a Taser press release highlights that the X3 will be the "first multi-shot ECD (electronic control device) capable of simultaneously incapacitating multiple targets." That could put some real scatter in less-lethal shotgun action, but also raises potential safety and abuse questions.

For now, rest assured that the X3 probably won't go off accidentally. A YouTube video shows the device being subjected to electric shocks, and other tests have apparently involved the cartridge "doing 4 foot free-falls on concrete at 20 below," according to a tweet from X3.

This terrifies me. The cops in my city have been flagged by amnesty international for their over abundance of taser usage. I watched them taser a guy one new years twice just because he asked the cops why they wanted to see his id. The bar I was at, needless to say, was filing charges for assault on behalf of the patron.

Yikes. The EPS has a new way to inflict heart attacks on the public.

Very neat, but I'm not sure it's what the world really needs. Like oxy, I have serious doubts over how these get used - we've lately had a spot of bother with the dibbles in the UK, overstepping the mark at protests and the like. I'd like to be able to exercise my legitimate right to disagree vigourously with the gibberment (that's all they seem good for at the moment) without being lit up.

Rock salt and bacon grease would be cheaper and have about the same effect.

Might I add: anything that accurately travels 100 feet from a 12 gauge shotgun should be considered to be potentially lethal.

And what happens when some trigger happy idiot puts one of these in the middle of someone's chest from 10 feet away? Or maybe the back of some little girl's skull?
