San Francisco's Multicoloured Salt Ponds

The beautifully colored patches that you see here are in fact salt evaporation ponds that can be seen when you are flying over San Fransico Bay. Find out what causes these colors, see more pictures. and find an interactive Google Map at Killer Web Directory.

I guess I picked the wrong time of day to fly into SFO. Here are my Salt Flat photos from a couple months ago: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmakar/3497965811/in/set-72157617566717057/

I grew up in Union City (zoom out twice and show labels on the Google map). Those pictures make me sentimental. I wouldn't call these San Francisco's salt ponds, though. They're the San Francisco Bay's salt ponds.
