The study stated the following: “Unpopular names are likely not the cause of crime but correlated with factors that increase the tendency toward juvenile delinquency, such as a disadvantaged home environment and residence in a county with low socioeconomic status.” Therefore, it’s not the name, its the condition of the environment. Shame on David Katlist and anyone else for indicating otherwise!

As a teacher I would like to add names that start with J and Cody. These kids always seem to be a bit of a frustration in the classroom.

My husbands name is Jotham, he hates it(though I love it) and growing up he took plenty of crap for it but he grew up to be a respectable and well mannered man. I’m sure it’s in how someone was raised, I’ve known a few too many bad Davids, Mikes and Johns.

What a stupid article. Kids are cruel, and they are going to be so regardless of what name they have. If they don’t make fun of their name, it will be the way they look. The real issue isn’t the name, it is how these children are taught to deal with peer-pressure and bullies in school.
I do agree that your name can negatively affect a perspective job.
I also don’t think that the list of “bad-boy” names are really that rare or “girly.”

I have a feeling that this study is skewed by not taking into consideration the people who are already prone to such “bad boy”-ness due to their socio-economic status.. which usually means minorty status, which often includes names which are not in the “top 100″ names list anyway…

Except Luke. Huh?! I know a zillion lukes growing up, that’s not even an unusual name.
