Wow vonskippy, I was wondering when you'd mention that it was the animal's home first and that humans ran them out, or that we're responsible, we should clean up the mess, but I guess you forgot.

Vonskippy -- I'm not sure if you've ever driven across America. Or flown across. Or looked at a population density map. ITS A BIG PLACE. Huge, in fact. With most of the middle areas having extremely low population density. To say that Montana and the Dakotas are going to run out of space any time soon is absurd.

Also about that "myth" regarding our inability to save endangered species: nobody tell the bald eagle.

Unfortunately, Dr. Skippy, most endangered animals got that way through no fault of their own, but by the ever-increasing human population's "need" to develop more and more land with no consideration for the ecology affected. I mean, it's pretty tough for a species to evolve in just a few decades so it can survive the theft of its habitat.

Sure Justin, explain that to the thousands of home owners that can't develop their land because of a 2cm guppy that lives in the underground stream, or the taxpayers in Colorado who can't finish a needed irrigation/drainage system because it upsets the breeding pattern of a grouse. The myth that Humans can save all these species that have failed the "evolve or die" Mother Nature test is just plain stupid. The fact that the government tried to impose laws that put obscure and useless species ABOVE human needs is pure politics and has ZERO chance of making any type of positive impact over the long run. Lets see how these laws (and useless species) survive when there's 500 million people in N. America instead of 300 million. In the mean time, stop wasting my tax money on programs/laws that are doomed to fail.

I'm glad we have vonskippy here to tell us what species are "useless" and what aren't. I'm guessing if he doesn't eat it then he believes they have no use in this world. (aside from humans I hope)

I hate to break it to you von, but there are plenty of people who hunt and fish on the one hand but are passionate conservationists on the other hand. You don't have to be a vegetarian tree-hugger to want to promote a healthy ecosystem.

Yes, lets all applaud the tree huggers for suing the government to "protect" another useless species. Perhaps they've read in the paper - the human species is the one they best be worrying about.
