The Compact Marble Machine

It’s not really necessary to watch the entire video to get the idea of what’s going on here. This marble machine was built in four hours. If I had one of these toys at home, I’d watch it constantly. But I have three cats, so it would probably be wrecked within a few minutes. -via Cynical-C

That’s nice but will it blend?

If you can stick a counter on the machine, this would be the perfect battery tester. We could test all sorts of them to see how long they last, including rechargables…. please do it

And it’s not all about the marbles. Nice design, mechanics and woodwork!

It was fun to watch them in Museums of Physics and stuff. There is one Visveswaraiah Museum in Bangalore,India. And the marble machine over there follows nearly all the laws of physics (including trajectory and elasticity). Only this is that it has big black balls (size of a normal baseball ball) instead of small marbles.
I’ll see if I can make one with proper instructions.. :D

No, wait. I changed my mind. that thing requires a lot of calculations..

any suggestions as to how to build your own? What did you use for motors – servos? What about control…is it all in the timing, or do is there a microcontroller that we’re not seeing? I’d love to build one of these….
