Bat Swinging

(YouTube link)

Since when is this possible? Long Beach Armada outfielder Josh Womack shows off a bit at training camp. Can I learn to do this, or would I just hurt myself? -via Reddit

If you watch him closely, he jerks the bat perfectly to counter the forward momentum and causes it to spin in place briefly. Very well done stunt!

A similar stunt that's great for the summer, take a 12 ounce soda can and fill it about 4/5 full with water (for practicing, you WILL get wet while learning it) fling the can up in the air with just enough torque to make it spin twice before catching it, too slow/too fast of a spin and the trick won't work. Go on, practice. Now, once you've mastered it, go show off and get your friends to try it (Bonus points if they get coke all over themselves, stand back ;)

Seems pretty plausible, I mean there's practically no weight in the handle of a bat so he's really using the weight of the front to spin in space, activated by jerking the handle back. I guess it's not too much different from spinning pizza dough?
