N.Y. Store Owner Gives Would-Be Thief Lecture, $40, Bread

Posted by Queuebot in Crime & Law on June 11, 2009 at 11:40 am

Most people put their hands up or hand over valuables in a robbery. However, this N.Y. store owner foiled an attempted robbery with a lecture, $40 and a loaf of bread.

Mohammad Sohail, a Long Island convenience store owner confronted by a bat-wielding would-be robber said Tuesday he decided to show mercy on the man after he collapsed in tears claiming he was only committing the crime to support his starving family.

Instead of getting loot from a stickup, the store owner provided the man with $40 and a loaf of bread, but only if he promised never to rob again.

    I saw that on TV.
In the interview the MORON admitted that the rifle wasn't loaded and never is, NOW he really will get robbed.

There's a rifle that made an appearance in the story. I wonder how much influence it had in the would-be robber giving up. I suspect plenty.

I pray that I would have the courage and compassion to do the same thing in a similar situation. There but for the grace of God go I....

Yep the guy then got fined by the state gov't for having tobacco (called drug in this case) paraphernalia in his store.

Though the fine was something that just happened to be timed with this news story, he was warned to get rid of the stuff a bunch of times before they actually fined him.

    Earnest - great comment!

$40 and a loaf of bread. Sounds like the start of one of those click-around mystery Flash games.
