I wish that some of them would come back!
Who knows what's still alive from the prehistoric time I'm very open minded about it.

I'm always on the look out for new animals!I'm trying to hunt down a new animal going by the name of prehistoric winged shark and I can't find it anywhere. ( I recorded off of sky)and still have it on sky plus .
I like the animals on this page that I'm going to print it up for kiddies .

You're forgetting the Megaloceros Giganteus which died out due to it's antlers being too big to fit through the trees once the ice-age had calmed down and the forests built up in density.

Christian trolls probably amuse me as much as they do God. He creates wonderful creatures and they call him a liar. Nice. Evolution is a miracle in itself and theologians who actually understand this stuff instead of spouting nastiness have no problem with it.

The Burgess Shale fossils at the top are a bit over five million years old. Opabinia was about 3 inches long - not much of a threat. Phorusrhacos the honking big bird here was the only one who could have hurt anyone. Too bad Moropus is shown without his skin. Dressed he looks like a delightful combination of a draft horse and a bear. I want one!

Bible Mom-
So animals that appear to be "freakazoids" were made by the devil?
Evolution is a lie?

Why don't Christians believe in evidence?

It's all very ENTERTAINING, but to dig up a few fossil examples of a species and do a whole "looks like and lived like" profile is conjecture at best.

Palaeontology is one of those soft sciences that just bugs me with all the guesses being touted as known facts.

I think it's a scientific method of some kind.

Anyway, that first one wasn't the size of a shark, but I remember seeing an episode of Nova that had a large, similar creature that thrived in the mostly ocean world of the Pre-Cambrian (or maybe post), and it was something you wouldn't want swimming up on you, for sure.

Some of those early pictures of fossils, How do they figure out head and tail? That one with the lone trunklike face of the shrimp family looks completely backwards. How do they determine skin types, fur, 3D facial features? I'm not disbelieving the science, But sometimes I think alot of fantastic assumptions are shared as fact when they may not be.
It's more obvious in primate studies where a hip and thigh can tell you how they looked, what they ate and their complete family dynamics.LOL
So,seriously, how can they see what's up and down?:)

FYI, your rendering of Hallucigenia is now generally regarded as being upside-down. Further research suggests the spiky "legs" were actually spikes on the back, and the squiggly bits were the creature's legs.

Stephen Jay Gould wrote about it a few years back: http://www.stephenjaygould.org/library/gould_reversal-hallucigenia.html

This is so weird...

I am spending my summer doing an internship studying conodonts trying to find the efilian-givetian boundry based on a certain type of conodont in the eastern US. And here I open my favorite website that I check daily before work, and there the little guys are! That just made my day!

Are we talking inches or feet here...? I mean, dino's sometimes give me the creeps, but to think that something like Opabinia swam the oceans at a same size of a modern Great White shark.....?

...There goes my peaceful sleep.....
