The Birth of Ginger and Other Works by Isabel Samaras

Isabel Samaras is a San Francisco-based artist who juxtaposes pop culture icons from the 1960s with major works of Western art. Above is "The Birth of Ginger", a synthesis of Gilligan's Island and Sandro Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus".

I'm trying to figure out why such simplistic drawing style and pedestrian master knockoffs gets so much awe and attention. Looks more like giggling Junior High School stuff to me.

It's the nipple and the little glimpse of the pubic triangle. Although it is nice to see that the carpet matches the drapes, the picture is actually more explicit than the original Birth of Venus, whose hands actually seem to cover less territory.
