I was told it means “You fish on your side of the lake, I’ll fish on my side of the lake, and nobody fish in the middle”. The original sign for this lake is hanging in the basement of a certain fraternity house I know. Pilfered many years ago. When I was a pledge, I was forced to remember how to pronounce the damn name and describe what it meant ad infinitum.
