There's one Kenny Rogers Roasters left in the US, somewhere in California, of all places. You'd think he'd have stayed in Nashville or something!

I'm ashamed to say I've eaten all of these except a Twitty Burger. A more recent misadventure was Lorrie Morgan and Sammy Kershaw's Hot Chicken, which didn't last long enough to sample.

I remember PoFolks, but don't remember the food, though I have been there when I lived in Florida. I always got it confused in my head with Cracker Barrel.

I got hooked on Kenny Rogers chicken (and GREAT sides) the second one opened in AL. Unfortunately I moved 2 weeks later and I have been missin' that amazing food ever since. I am not kidding you: it was an awesome citrus spit roasted bird and fresh sides and quite a bargain.

I miss PoFolks in Florida. My folks took me there and I enjoyed it (there's a Sweet Tomatoes there now). I was in Kamakura (Ofuna Station) when Kenny Rogers Roasters opened in the mid 1990s. I remember seeing the staff's confusion when I ordered. I visited a couple of times and thought it was passable, but nothing special.

Strider Egg:

Boil an egg, then coat it in a 1/2" layer of Jimmy Dean Sage sausage and fry until thoroughly cooked. Enjoy.

PoFolks was THE best place for chicken livers and hush puppies. It makes me happy to hear that there are still a few of their stores in Florida.

I thought Kenny Rogers' Roasters disbanded due to the legal issues with his franchise's recipe being identinal to another chains. Not that I care, chicken is chicken. Nandos is good, I like the extra hot peri peri sauce.

Jimmy Dean may have gotten "fried" personally, but unlike the others he built a brand name that's still strong today. When I think of sausage, I think of Jimmy Dean! I don't imagine Jimmy ever thought he'd see his name on a package of frozen chocolate-chip pancake-wrapped sausages on sticks, but he did create a successful brand.

Po Folks was delicious and cheap. We used to get the fried chicken on Sundays. I wondered what happened to take them out; now I know (and knowing is half the battle).

I used to eat at Po Folks a lot in the 80s. Good food and cheap, too. When they went out of business, I thought it may have been the low prices.

The only celebrity to get it right was Paul Newman, and he gave his profits to charity. Buying something because a celebrity endorses it is sheep-like.
