It is possible because the oldest living woman is 295 but it is exsreamly rare because we all know that people usally only make it to their 80′s or 90′s.

What makes so many of you think she’s just been sitting around all these years! Considering where she’s from, she hasn’t been sitting around idle and eating junk food and has worked hard all her life. My grandmother who was from Russia died at the age of 98 from an infection from an ingrown toenail and had to have her leg amputated which killed her. Her doctors said she had veins of a 16 year old. She had a shot of whiskey every night that she claimed kept her veins clear.

When it comes to these people living that long and through god knows how many wars revolutions etc its a triumph or its a lie either way even if shes just 90 hell she still survived. now as far as your brain deminishes over time no. as you age you get complacent and have no desire to learn esp when your in the same job for 30 years why should you. but those people who keep learning are those with great minds yet may be old. its all realitive truthfully. no one even knows why we need sleep i mean come on theoretically we should be able to stay awake constantly but yet we can’t our brains can’t handle it. our bodies each do something strange yet not even science completely understands.

Well, there was a lady who lived to age 122 and died in 1998. Maybe its not impossible in 2009. Seems like life expectancy just keeps getting higher and higher every epoch or so.

I’d much rather live a full life in 70 years than 130 years of doing nothing. And on the aging brain situation, that is plainly untrue. There is no definite causal relationship between age and decline of IQ, after a certain age the brain is more susceptible to losing memories and general senility, but those are mostly people who work in professions where their brain is in constant use will be able to from new information and memories in their brain until the day they die. The decline of physical abilities would be better attributed to why an old person can’t learn guitar quickly, or that they simply have no will to. If they didn’t pick up a guitar in 70 years, why start now?

By the way that wont happen. If you’re 115 years old you probably have the IQ of a retarded person. Remember that story the other day about mental decline starting at 27? If you’re 115, I’ll bet your brain looks like a degraded block of Swiss cheese. Eating cottage cheese is pretty much all you can do at that age.

Some scholars are pretty old, but they don’t really have to learn new things. They’re basically coasting on 70 years of accumulated reading. Most of it probably forgotten, but when you’ve read 20 times as much as the average person that doesn’t matter much.

But almost no old people can really learn anything new, and the older you are the worse it gets. A 15 year old boy can plausibly pick up a guitar for his first time, and re-invent rock music within 5 years. A lot of rock musicians are famous within 10 years of the first time they practiced. A 70 year old never does that.

A 10 year old boy exposed to his first real math equations can be at the forefront of some crazy new technical discipline at MIT within 10 years. A 70 year old never does that.

Once you’re old, you are either coasting on the niche you made for yourself while you were young, or you’re pretty much done. An 80 year old is an 120 year old is a 300 year old.

People who live until they are like 200 years old are almost always women, and almost all of them squander the last 150 years doing nothing but watching soap operas or, in this case, eating cottage cheese. OK my children are all grown up, time to sit on my ass for an entire century doing absolutely nothing while historical milestones fly by.

No wonder they live forever, they don’t do anything. It’s hard to have an accident if you’re just sitting in a chair all day. Their metabolisms probably slow down like a hibernating bear.

Just once it would be cool to hear about someone that lives to 115 that actually manages to pack two or three whole lifetimes worth of experience into that extended lifespan. Like yeah, I was an architect, but then I turned 70 and realized I wanted to be a surgeon or a stunt pilot. I trained for 8 years and still had a 30 year career. Bravo, two lives packed into one.

I have read and heard that when you reach a certain age you stop physically aging. I don’t think there is a real difference between someone who is 102 and someone who is 130. (as far as outward appearances go)

There’s the possibility she’s using an ID that was taken from a dead person to avoid something. Documents can be forged and you can’t take people on their word, you just have to follow the paper trail to verify the truth.

As a long-time genealogist, I’ve experienced first hand how difficult it is to untangle who is who from documentation alone — not only did parents “hand down” their names but often if an earlier child in a family died, the parents would name a later baby the same name (sometimes several times until one lived long enough!) On top of this, very often cousins living in the same small towns would have the identical name, etc.

In short, I rather doubt the 130 years claim (though maybe in northern Kazakhstan life is so boring it just seems to have been that long!)

I’m not sure if that is her picture, but she looks like she’s around her 80s, but that’s just my opinion.
