A Tribute to Space Bat

[YouTube - Link]

We all are still in mourning for Space Bat who took the ultimate ride to the Heavens and beyond by holding on to dear life to the Discovery Space Shuttle. This is a tribute to remember what the brave little guy did by being the first and tragically last Bat to go to space...we'll always remember you Space Bat...Godspeed! :(

Most likely space bat fell off the insulation after the shuttle reached a speed of only 100 miles per hour (while still below 5,000 ft.) and was swept by the slipstream into the engine exhaust and was cooked.

Quick fried to a crackly crunch.

I know it's not quite as romantic, but it's probably the truth.

No way did he make it to space.

"There was, needless to say, no sign of the bat when the Discovery docked at the International Space Station." (original post)

As U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard would say, "If he's dead, then where is the body?"

Answer: He's not dead! He lives... as... Space Bat! watching over us all...

I was moved to write a short ballad. It's to the tune of the Phoebe (Friends) coffee house classic "stinky cat".

Space Bat

Space Bat, space bat
where have they sent you?
Space Bat, space bat
Reach for the stars.

They won’t take you to the moon
when obviously there’s lot of room.
Maybe not so smart it seems --
But you’re a friend to those who dream.

Space Bat, space bat
Where have they sent you?
Space Bat, space bat
Reach for the stars.
