Mothers have more impact than the scientific community has caught on to. I am currently struggling with my mother’s death. She died at age 53, the age I will be this year. But why am I so affected? We weren’t close. I’m not like her. It makes no sense.

I have also seen girls taken away from their abusinve mothers who are affected for their entire lives. One girl went to live with her mother at age 18. WHY? It was short lived and she has now gone into the Navy. I hope that helps her break free.

Another girl I know is not so lucky. Her life is a total mess. She has never been able to let go – even though she was also given a better life.

If you think about it – even Jesus was a mama’s boy.

What is this hold that mother’s have over us?

there is nothing wrong with loving your mother. i kind of object to mothers being disrespected as much as they are. i am the mother of an only child, a boy. it has been my experience that a person tends to be closer to their opposite gender parent. i was what some considered a daddy’s girl. nothing wrong with that either. unfortunately, my dad died when i was 15. my son and i are best friends, but when he was little, i knew to be a parent as well as a friend. and i think that’s the key–you have to know how to strike a balance. i’m not a scary “oh, my god, it’s your mother” type. i’m not controlling, we just happen to love each other more than we love anyone else. the only pure love you feel is for your child. everything else has an angle. you either love for financial gain or sexual favors. the love you feel for your child, if you are a real parent, is pure, unconditional and wholly without motive.

interesting how much of a momma’s boy elvis was when he decided to work at an early age.. lied about it and got a ss# matter of fact he had two.. and didn’t get home until late and sometimes found mom and dad fighting so elvis would turn right back around and stay out of the way.

he never talked much about his mother… not even about his twin brother, no one knew much until after elvis died vernon started opening his yap, he wasn’t known for his honesty.

The thing about Elvis is quite true. My dad actually lived in a small duplex with Elvis’ family in Tupelo before they left.

Till the day my dad died, he would talk about what a wuss and Mama’s boy Elvis was.

Yet, Elvis and my dad were friends until his death (Elvis kept fairly close to another mutual friend from Tupelo… a notorious lawyer, Jimmy Shelton). Jimmy and wife and my dad and mother used to go to the shows backstage quite often and my dad would joke with Elvis about his Mama’s boy attitude when he was a 4 year old.

Elvis gave Jimmy a 56 Thunderbird that his family still has to this day (and turned down over $1M offer for).

True story.

I always thought “That’s Alright Mama” was the song Elvis recorded at Sun studios that got him attention. Also about Mom, must have come later?
