Inamo, a Japanese-style restaurant located in the U.K., has a fascinating concept in self-service.

Located above each dining table is a projector and computer; diners in turn can use the touch screen to order food, change the table pattern, and play games. One can even watch their food being prepared via the kitchen cam!

I saw/used this at a restaraunt in Ueno in Tokyo in 2007. It’s fancy schmancy and within a few minutes of finalizing our order on the screen, we had our food.

In regards to this being the future of dining, it’s certainly a possibility. You know those annoying TVs that show ads for everything/anything, and show your total at checkouts at Jewel and other grocery stores? I saw those in the convenience stores in Tokyo the first time I was there in 2001. I thought they were super hi tech cool. Now they’re everywhere in the US and super annoying.

I like the concept, especially the webcam showing what’s going on in the kitchen, the images going on the “plates”, and all of it. If it was super-expensive, though, I’d pass.

It can be a new branch, or theme if you would prefer. But not the direction of the mainstream restaurantism. After all, we go there for the wooden tables, relaxing atmosphere and some few hours of uneventfulness

So I’m studying hospitality and this is a cool concept that’s been going around but I don’t think it will take off as much as people think. People need people to talk to. People like interaction and need to feel as if they matter =/ only other people can do that.

I dined here a few months ago. It was really awesome, but the real star is the food – pork with a chocolate sauce? I didn’t believe it until I tasted it! Very expensive, was over £70 for two…

We have a chain of places like this in Los Angeles called ‘UWink’ http://www.uwink.com/restaurants…I've been there twice and it was OK…but not ridiculously impressive
