Ireland's Worst Driver Finally Caught

Posted by Queuebot in Funny, Odd News on February 19, 2009 at 9:31 pm

Prawo Jazdy has become the bane of every Irish police officer’s life over the past few years, racking up countless fines and traffic offenses. Whenever officers pulled the offender over, they were given a different address so the police didn’t connect him to the other crimes.

Now however, police have managed to catch up with Prawo, and they’ve discovered an embarrassing truth as to why they have never caught up with him before.

When translated into English, the name Prawo Jazdy, becomes "Driving License" It seems officers pulling over Polish driving offenders have been mistakenly noting down what they thought was the offender’s name, but in fact were reading the title on the card. Officers have been warned to take more care during traffic stops in the future

“Having noticed this, I decided to check and see how many times officers have made this mistake.

“It is quite embarrassing to see that the system has created Prawo Jazdy as a person with over 50 identities.”

The officer added that the “mistake” needed to be rectified immediately and asked that a memo be circulated throughout the force.

Just a hint about posting...the idea of a link blog is for people to click the links to discover new and interesting sites. If you give me too much information it makes me not want to click. Less is better(unless they are the type posts that Neatorama is known for their original Neatorama only ones)Leave the reader hanging so they'll want to click. Enough said.

Because there's not enough on this site to click on. Psshhht! I'm just kidding. In -my- opinion, it's nice to just be able to scroll through the pages and read things without having to click on links now and again.

Inexcusable, really, since the format of the license is the same across the EU so Irish dibbles should have been familiar with the layout - the fields are even numbered the same.

How dumb can you be to make a mistake like this?

Here in European Union most countries have a standardized Drivers License! So basically you seen one you've seen them all. I don't know when Poland adopted this format of the EU driving permit but even on the image posted above you see that the names are filed under the 1. and 2. marked places! Just like mine does here in Portugal.

Irish cops... Cut on the Guiness dosage if you may! ;)

Additional there is a lot of cases when German police use name and office address of mayjor of city instead of driver. Polish Driver License rocks!

While there is a standard format to most EU driving licences, I have to point out that the Irish driving licence is very different. It is not laid out the same way at all.

This reminds me of a story I heard many years ago about a guy who ordered a personalized license plate that enabled him to get out of paying parking tickets. It read "NO PLATE". An officer would write this on a parking ticket and it was interpreted by the person sending out the fines as a car with no tags, so no ticket would be sent. Of course this was before computerized police records and tighter restrictions by the DMV on vanity plates.
