Guard Dog is about a bulldog who takes his duties very seriously. This animated short by Bill Plympton was nominated for an Oscar in 2004. -Thanks, Katherine!

I don’t know if it was just me but I found this to be really disturbing. Maybe I’m just weird, it just like one of those overly gory surreal cartoons that make no sense and just kinda weird you out.

Why didn’t it make sense? I thought it made sense… overly protective dog that ended up being the one that ended up being the one to hurt the owner :P
I thought it was very cute and very well done.

It made sense I understood what the whole story was about, maybe what I meant to say was

    “But why?”

    @ yellowsittingduck

Ah, young grasshopper then one could ask the question of,”But, why not?”. Now back to your training!

put simply, if you worry about the things that might be harmful, you’ll never see the things that actually are harmful until its too late.

a bit gory, but dogs can be like that :) ever seen a couch after you’ve left them alone for 2 hours? lol.

I liked the film up until the end. I was hoping for a happy ending.

I really liked how he walked without his legs… or so it seemed. I thought it went on a little long and the dragging at the end was unnecessary.

I think it was actually nominated in 2006. I have the DVD of 2006 Oscar nominated shorts, and it’s included there.

I bet the dog would have voted for the Patriot Act.

If you want to see something really wild, see Plymton’s film called “I married a strange person”.

I thought the end would be when a genuine threat (like a mugger) approached, the dog would just roll on its back to be tickled whilst its owner was attacked. Again, like a real dog.

Funny. Except for the dog’s mouth not being quite as well synchronized as it should have been, it is very well done.
