I'm almost positive that this is a nutria. It has webbed hind feet, orange incisors, white patch around its muzzle, and it's about the right size. They are commonly raised by fur farmers in China and are feral in Thailand.

This reminds me of the urban legend where the boaters found what they thought was a cat floating in the water and then brought it home...Then it ate their dog. SCARY!

2. I don't think they've been to NYC. That's a medium sized young street rat/

Bubonic plague- do not want. One doubt I always had is: since humans have become taller since we've had more available food from generation to generation etc, could the same happen to rats, mice etc?

My bet is a small-ish Nutria. They're native to Africa, but farmed all over for their fur. They're a really big problem in Louisiana.

a) it looks bigger than 6 lbs.

b) the color and light on the rat don't match that of the person.

c) why would rat allow you to pick it up?

I'm thinking Photoshop

Another of those misleading animal photos where they hold the animal out in front of them to make it look much larger than it really is. Don't forget the source: this is the same country that recently released fake footage, filmed underwater, of a fictitious space walk.
