One thing I’ve always wondered about the Sixth Sense, did Cole know that Bruce Willis’s character was dead or not?

Loved the movie btw. I was pretty dumb, didn’t see it coming haha. It’s more of an emotional, tearjerker for me (like the ending!!) though than a horror (though I did have goosebumps during some parts).

Cole (the boy) could see dead people because, well, he’s special like that. He’s not a dead person, but give the ending another look, and you will probably catch on to who’s actually dead.

wasnt the happening a remake? i would have likes signs if the acting was better. maybe thats why i liked the village much better acting cept for Night throwing himself into his movies he is definitely not an actor. the sixth sense was so touching on so many levels how could you not like that movie

The ending was spoiled for many Indian fans – because some intelligent guy decided that they should name the Hindi translation of movie as “Bachhe ki kahani, murde ki zubani” (= A kid’s story, from a dead guy’s words). Awesome!

I’ve liked all Shyamalan’s movies, some more than others, but all the endings suck. He really needs to resist the temptation to tie up all the loose ends. You can’t be good at everything. He should stick to directing and let a more creative writer take care of the plot twists.

Rumor has it that the twist wasn’t M. Night’s idea. Since the twist is what made the movie great, it explains why all of the rest of his movies have been rubbish.

always been a fan of M. Nights work, 6th was my introduction, and it was beautiful story telling. not all of his work has been breathtaking, but you can’t expect everything he touch to turn to gold.

brayden – that’s going to be a trilogy? good to hear, i thought they were going to try to pack it all in one film, which would be an impossibility! I know the first one comes out in 2010, got any other info on them you’d like to share?

mjc is correct; The movie was bad. Bruce died in the beginning of the movie, correct?. After his death, everything jumps to one year later in the movie and–in that time– Bruce never discovers that he is a ghost. He had NO interraction with anyone within that year…. not even his wife. Did he just think everyone–including his wife– was ignoring him?

All Shyamalan movies sucked. But that’s my opinion.

Maybe I’m the only one—and I hope not—but I guessed the so-called twist of SIXTH SENSE right away when thed said he sees dead people. It kinda ruined everything after that. Same thing with the first STAR TREK movie. The minute they said “V-ger” it was apparent to me where they were going.

It’s really annoying when this happens cos it means I blew $6 or $8 and can’t enjoy the movie.

I saw Sixth Sense with my wife at a theater in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

We rode our bikes there… it was still light outside when we arrived.

Upon standing from our seats, I commented that everyone around us could be dead.

The 20 minute bike ride home took her 10. I had a hard time keeping up as she sped through the dark streets of Eindhoven.

Sixth Sense was boring–dragged along until the twist, and only then was it vaguely entertaining in retrospect. Unbreakable was worse. I’d write more on M.’s supposed storytelling genius, but then I got hit by a truck.

A friend of mine has never seen this movie, and refuses to. He missed seeing it on opening weekend and everyone at school the next week spoiled the twist for him.

I personally like most of his stuff, and really loved Lady in the Water, but I have to admit that some of them are hit and miss.

Signs is one of my most favorite movies. Loved Sixth Sense and The Village. Then he started going downhill. Unbreakable. . .bleck! The Happening is criminally bad. And Lady in the Water is marginally meh. I don’t know what happened to Mr. Shamylan but I hope he finds his way back to us!

Loved 6th Sense but it was downhill for Shyamalan from there.

The plot twist in Signs was particularly absurd, so I’m kinda scared of what he’ll do to The Last Airbender.

I really liked the 6th sense. I can’t believe that the patient was Donnie Wahlberg! I’m going to have to tell my sister, she won’t believe me.

And to the Unbreakable fans; you know M. Night, Sam Jackson and Bruce Willis are all up for making sequels, right? At least one, maybe 2.

Oh, and The Happening started out interesting enough but fell waaaaay flat soon after. Mass suicides? Yeah, okay. Uh, the ending? Nooooo sir!

mjc…. did you just not even pay attention to the movie at all? They mentioned how the ghosts really only see what they want…. Which is why we never actually saw Bruce Willis’ character open the door down to the basement, yet there he is, in the basement a few times.
He didn’t want to see that he was dead, so blocked out the obvious signs that he was.
Was it just an easy way to fool the audience? Sure, but they do explain it at least.

Anywho… yeah, even though the aliens thing in Signs was a bit bleh… I still enjoy the movie. I just love the part where Mel’s character comes in to the room and sees his brother and kids w/ the tinfoil hats
And when he’s talking with his wife.. ugh.. also just gets to me.. so sad

Sorry, but the Sixth Sense sucked. I saw the director’s commentary on the DVD and he was patting himself on the back saying he was so proud that he had gone to great lengths to make every little detail of the film work in such a way that you should be able to guess the ending if you pay close attention.
How is he kidding? Just one of many, many examples: The film cuts to a scene with Bruce and the boy’s mother sitting across from each other in the living room and the boy walks in the door, breaking the silence. The director points out that you assume Bruce and the mother were talking before the cut, when in fact not a word is exchanged between them (because she doesn’t know he’s there). How convenient! The director never explains how Bruce can get into this woman’s home, sit down with her in her living room, and be completely unaware that she can’t see him? Woudn’t she have not opened the door when he knocked? Oh, he just walked in unannounced and sat down wordlessly not at all wondering why she was ignoring this surprise guest? Yeah, we should be able to guess that no problem. I don’t know why I didn’t figure that out on my own.

I was on a plane and started watching The Village shortly after it had started. I had no idea of what it was, so it was actually kind of cool – I sure wasn’t expecting what happened!

Unbreakable is one of my favorite films. When it came out, I was pleasantly surprised to see a “superhero” story handled in such an understated, thoughtful way.

The Village is great, too. I think the “twist” at the end is a little bit much, but I don’t care. I love the characters, especially Bryce Dallas Howard’s performance as Ivy.

I haven’t seen The Happening yet. I should probably rent that soon…

Signs was a terrible film in so many ways…

Unbreakable, and The Sixth Sense, everything past that has been godawful. Senor, I also got the “twist” in the first scene– IMO it’s pretty obvious when he’s talking to the mom and she doesn’t respond even slightly to it. (People who are actively ignoring you will respond to you in certain ways, turning the other way etc.)

Sixth Sense was really good except for my friend figuring out the twist after the first scene and filling me in. We saw it on opening night before anyone knew and as soon as he mentioned it I knew he was right but I still enjoyed the movie.

I liked Unbreakable because Im a comic book fan and really liked Bruce Willis’ character. Signs, Lady in the Water and The Village I liked when I saw them but would not watch them again. My biggest problem with signs is that an alien race brilliant enough to accomplish intergalactic travel somehow thought it was a good idea to holiday on a planet that is made almost entirely of the one thing that can hurt them.

I did not like The Happening because it bored me.

Maybe I’m just being a homer, but I think his work is somehow intuitive. Maybe not always spot on, but always at least in the ballpark.

Close enough for me to pay attention whenever he puts out a new work…

Can you guys believe that M Night is directing the Avatar: The Last Airbender trilogy?

For those unfamiliar with the series, check it out. Its a totally awesome and epic Nickelodeon cartoon.

I really liked 6th Sense, and enjoyed unbreakable, but am pretty much otherwise unimpressed with his directing. But I can’t see him fucking up Avatar. Its too good!

Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were great. Signs was good story telling, but the revealed alien premise was absurd. The rest of the films go downhill after that.

My wife was a New Kids fan, so she finds it funny that I like Donnie Wahlberg’s acting (in Band of Brothers). Maybe it helps that I had no exposure to New Kids on the Block.

I love it. I guessed the twist right away, but the movie was still very satisfying.

I liked Unbreakable, tolerated Signs, disliked The Village after about a half hour. Unlike The Sixth Sense, The Village is virtually unwatchable if you guess the twist.

It’s a shame that M. needs to flog the same tropes over and over. He is a good filmmaker, but his choice of material is silly.

i kinda liked the village…. but i actually saw stir of echos right before i saw this one… which got compared to it a lot since they both came out around the same time… so i was tainted on actually liking the sixth sense… however…ive never been able to sit through 6th sense since the initial viewing..and i did just sith through Stir a few weeks ago…

I actually like alot of his movies and didn’t think The Happening was all that bad. Same goes for his other movies.
Sixth Sense and Signs are my favs though.
The end of Sixth Sense always gets to me when it’s showing the wedding video.. always gets me all teared up.
