Words can not describe the appropriate awesomeness Dutch frites are with mayo. And that mayo - god in heaven, it's so good and flavorful. I would kill for some frites right now.

You might want to note that the Danish "røde pølser" (red sausages) are only a variety. Equally common are regular "sausage coloured" sausages.

You can usually get some four or five different kinds of sausage at a stand - reds, browns, foot longs, in a blanket, with relish, fried onions, ketchup, mustard... oh god I'm going out to lunch.

My favorite in Denmark is the sausage wrapped in bacon which is put into a hollowed-out bagette that has a shot of spicy mustard in it - unbelievable! In London there is nothing better than the foot-long carts on the street around 11pm that serve these dogs with grilled onion and hot mustard.

Every day I was in Paris, I'd start the day going to a fast crepe place and got either a nutella or sugar crepe to eat as I went with my parents on our merry way.

Those things were damn tasty, and I dare say better as a fast thing in France then at any restaurant in Chicago.

When I was in England I was happily amazed by the variety and quality of take-away packaged sandwiches. They're everywhere, the fillings are interesting, fresh, and delicious and they're packaged well enough to stuff in your bag for eating later. And not expensive. Really great and practical fast food.

@ Jake

Well it was invented in England, named after the Earl of Sandwich who had meat between bread brought to him at the gaming tables so that he didn't have to step away and lose any opportunity to throw away the family fortune.

SO it is English. Not British, English.

"A peculiarly British form of fast food is the sandwich"

what now?

that's all it says no explanation. is it implying that it isnt normal to eat a sandwich?

Frikadelle: and it's a kind of meatball. Usually eaten with potatoes and vegetables, potato salad or on bread.

For some reason it's under germany in the list..

Sweden has a lot more than simply horv. I go fairly regularly to the Karlshamn baltic festival in Sweden to get amazingly bladdered with me Swedlish amigos and the fast food is pretty high in the mix as you'd imagine.

Lots of Tundbrodrolle with crayfish, Vild Svin, smoked herring Fisk and Langos. I know Langos are Hungarian but then Hot Dogs are everywhere too.

But you can not whack the Crayfish party Kraftskiva.

It is also the only place I've ever been where Donner Kebab is eaten in daylight and total sobriety.

God I love Sweden.
