The young lady will make some young man a fine wife, once she’s dead.
Harkens back to the day when young women of “breeding” had nothing to occupy their minds and so resorted to mischief like this. Eventually she’d end up becoming a morphine addict or drunk conducting seances to the amusement of her female peers before dying of cirrhosis or TB. Tsk, tsk.
I liked it even though it was mean spirited. The trouble is that girl was far to clever and creative for her time. Today a girl like that would grow up to be an actress, a film maker or a writer.
I think I read this short story a while back in college.
Anyhow, that girl is pretty funny.

I read that story, too. Saki was a master of the short story.
That guy looked like whatisname from Ugly Betty.
