Octuplets Mom’s First Interview

By Alex in Baby & Kids, Health on Feb 5, 2009 at 9:18 pm

Here’s the interview everyone’s been waiting for: Nadya Suleman, the Octuplets’ mom went straight from the hospital to an interview with NBC’s Ann Curry:

The mother of octuplets born last week in Bellflower told NBC News she wanted to have a "huge family" because she longed for personal connections she felt she lacked in her childhood.

"I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that I — I really lacked, I believe, growing up," Nadya Suleman said in an interview today with NBC’s Ann Curry. "Reflecting back on my childhood, I know it wasn’t functional. It was pretty — pretty dysfunctional, and whose isn’t?"

Grah. This should be the interview NO ONE’S been waiting for. I mean, is she really in a good position to be bringing up that many kids!?

Just stop giving her attention, she’ll go away. Hopefully.

Very Selfish. Good luck to her kids, but geez.

The woman obviously has something seriously wrong with her.
People need to stop giving her attention b/c it really pisses me off every time I hear about her.
I read that she’s not getting any freebies though (or at least not alot) which makes me happy.
She wanted all of those kids, SHE needs to provide for them.
Go out and get a damn job!

“I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that I — I really lacked, I believe, growing up,”

It’s going to be 14 times worse for her kids.

I agree with everyone saying to ignore her…

But how can we turn our collective backs on her at the expense of these poor kids?

I agree with what everyone says, but you can’t change the fact that everybody likes to look at freaks.

I worked in day care for years and the state set a ratio that we could have: Under a year – 4 to one adult. Having 14 children isn’t even safe. She’ll never be able to take them all to the park, to McDonalds, to a Museum together. How sad. What kind of family is this? They will have to stay home most of their little lives. This is just crazy. I feel sorry for the kids and she is a nut case.

At least that psycho Utah family (the Duggers or whatever their name is) has sense enough to spread them out a little. Dianne is right. This isn’t safe. What if there was a fire at the house. Think about all the emergencies that could happen. This woman should be arrested. But then, if they put her in jail who would take care of the kids – the taxpayers!!

As a card-carrying bleeding-heart liberal I feel really weird taking shots at anybody’s reproductive choices or their need for state assistance, but WTF, woman?! Not to sound paternalistic, but this woman sounds disturbed, and is obviously not in a place to be making these kinds of medical decisions.

I live in Utah, the Duggars live in Arkansas, you live in Bulls@#&ville.

Really. So she has a clown car in her pants. Who cares?

    Scott-O

We care because we will have to pay to support these children (yeah, I live in California). We care because these children will grow up neglected and probably unable to form necessary relationships with people. We care because Ms. Suleman has put her obvious psychological issues ahead of the immediate needs of 16 other people (her parents and children) and the needs of those who are paying to support those children. We care because we most certainly will be paying in money and misery for the psychological and physical issues these children will have as the result of their failure of a mother.

“Reflecting back on my childhood, I know it wasn’t functional. It was pretty — pretty dysfunctional, and whose isn’t?”

Translation : “I’ve already rationalized the neglect I’ll engage in of these children.”

Just watched the video. She seems a little off.

What I care about more is the protester who showed up at her house with a sign that says:

    “No more babys”

You lose all credibility in your argument when you make a spelling error like that. Of course he could add:

“because they might have an education equal to mine.”

I am sick and tired of seeing this woman splashed all over the news. The media needs to stop pandering to her NOW. She is mentally ill. Those kids will wind up being taken away from her at some point in the not-too-distant future because it’s obvious she’s screwed up and her kids will be too. Don’t feel sorry for her, she brought this on herself, with the help of an unscrupulous and irresponsible doctor. The only ones I feel bad for here are her kids, she had them just to fulfill her own selfish needs.

I’m super-glad to hear the fertility doctor who implanted ALL 14 of her kids is being investigated by the California medical review board. He or she needs to have their license yanked immediately and been banned from practicing medicine of any kind for life.

Sigh. Make that “be banned”. I’m tired.

Please don’t put up any more posts about that sick woman here. There’s nothing neat about this at all.

    I babysit. $10.00 an hour. I love children. DON’T CALL…….EVER!

Let me summarize most people’s primary problem with this woman.

Cost of a 52 pack of diapers from Toys R Us. 16.99

if one baby uses one diaper per day (god willing) that puts you out to about halfway through the week

add in food, time, utilities, the fact that you need a job to make the money.

also the fact that by all appearances she doesn’t have 14 hands

    and… we’ve discovered the problem.

I’ve been thinking about this family ever since it hit the news about this girl having so many children. Like so many other people, it makes me sad to think what kind of life these children will have growing up. It also makes me really upset that there are people out there like myself who can’t have children and would REALLY love to be able to, and see that this girl went out and had so many children that she obviously can’t take care of. I know this is aweful to say, but I wish she would adopt alot of them out to people…GOOD PEOPLE..who really want children and can’t physically have them. At least she would be giving them a better life than she is able to give them. I know those are her children, and I am sure that she loves them as a mother should, but I honestly think that she should love them enough to give them a better life with a family who can afford to give them EVERYTHING that they need! I feel sorry for the children, as they didn’t ask to be brought into the world this way. And I pray that the mother does the right thing by them!!!
