Denny’s Slammed by Breakfast Promotion

By Queuebot in Food & Drink on Feb 4, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Denny’s restaurants across America were jammed yesterday with customers seeking to take advantage of a promotion advertised during this past weekend’s Super Bowl game.

The promotion promised a free Grand Slam breakfast to anyone between the hours of 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

While I was too busy at work to go, some of my friends went.  Did any of you take advantage of this offer?

Media outlets reported customers lined up outside the doors of many of Denny’s 1,500 locations.

Some patrons were still wearing their pajamas and slippers, and strangers were crowding together into booths, CNN affiliate KSL-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah, reported.

amazing how cheap people can be, to save $6 they are ready to spent 2-4 hours in the line…and i bet there were some people who intentionally took a day off just to so they can get some free breakfast. even if you make a minimum wage, you’ll have couple bucks left after paying for breakfast. freeloaders…

I heard that alot of people took advantage of the waitress/waiter and left no tips. I hope those people get hit by a bus.

Schnorrer taking advantage of a free meal and not giving tips? My, what a surprise!

I was there alright. Got there about seven, there was a forty-five minute wait for a table, but I saw some friends with a spot open so fortunately I circumvented that. Even so, it took about 10 minutes for a waitress to get to our table and then another 25 for our food to arrive. Still, entirely worth it. It was mostly just fun to see a Denny’s so mobbed.

This was, without a doubt, an amazing buzz marketing campaign for Dennys.

I totally went and the wait was not that bad, really — about 20 minutes. However, it was a motley crew that showed up in downtown SF. Unappetizing.

If I would have known about this I would have gone, just for the social aspect. In my little town the local Dennys is pretty much “the spot” since other establisments in town don’t stay open 24 hours. I’m sure I would have seen a lot of people I know. I don’t care about it being free, just having an event in such a tiny town is a chance for fun. Dang… oh well. I missed it.

It’ll be interesting to see how many people actually come back to purchase a Grand Slam later.

It’d even be more interesting if they did the promotion from midnight to 4am to catch all the drunk clubbers…

None of you woke up before 2:00 in the afternoon?
I drove by, but the line was just way too long.

When you have $0, $6 seems a fortune.

Pretty brilliant marketing campaign. Instead of spending $3million for a super bowl spot that lasts 30 seconds, they give out $5million worth of breakfast and have local radio and television station in the country cover it for a day. Also, nice to give people breakfast :)

I used to be a Dennys regular. Me and a friend would eat greasy breakfast food, play cards, drink coffee and smoke cigarettes until the sun came up after getting off work.

I went at lunchtime (Santee, California) but took advantage of teh rainchecks they gave out which don’t expire until 2/13. It was a long wait but everyone seemed to be patient.
