Won't Someone Think of the Wall Street Bankers' Girlfriends?

Posted by Alex in Money & Finance on January 29, 2009 at 2:10 am

You know the economy is bad when Wall Street banker’s girlfriends are complaining about their lives. Here’s a day-in-the-life of members of Dating a Banker Anonymous:

They shared their sad stories the other night at an informal gathering of Dating a Banker Anonymous, a support group founded in November to help women cope with the inevitable relationship fallout from, say, the collapse of Lehman Brothers or the Dow’s shedding 777 points in a single day, as it did on Sept. 29.

In addition to meeting once or twice weekly for brunch or drinks at a bar or restaurant, the group has a blog, billed as “free from the scrutiny of feminists,” that invites women to join “if your monthly Bergdorf’s allowance has been halved and bottle service has all but disappeared from your life.”

It pleases me to be the first to say BOO FRIGGITY HOO. Anyone caught publicly whining about being slighty less rich should be slapped with a three-day-old dead fish and then urinated on by a pack of rabid monkeys while underprivilaged school children point and laugh.

Well, what else can be said that SwordBuddha hasn't?

Freakin'-A. Here's to a dose of realism for the other-worldly sorts.

    Awwwwww poor widdle gold-digging babies....

Let me break out the world's tiniest violin and suggest they DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE with their lives instead of leaching.

Wasn't there a similar article about "poor rich housewives" a while back?

I think the same comments there apply here. Which is to say, their selfish entitlement-based self-pity mewlings annoy and infuriate anyone with any morals.

I'm sure there are plenty of job offers for "under the table" secretaries

Maybe this is our chance to wipe out the entire breed in one generation! No more investment bankers sucking bonuses out of non-existent funds while supporting lazy harpies.

I went to the blog and read through it a bit. It's pretty hard to feel bad for a group of people who are condeming how "common people" live. Sure it sucks you have to deal with all the crap of an econimic downturn, but why should I feel bad that you can't have a private Yoga lesson? I bet this will get turned into a reality show.

Blue staters and their SWPL attitudes.

Glad I don't live there anymore.

I was pretty sure I was going to be disgusted, but I read the whole article and found myself actually pitying these women. It must be very difficult to see the person you love suffer and stress out. While yes, the blog is pretty ridiculous, the article assures that it's supposed to be a tongue and cheek farce. Still... I suppose it takes all kinds, doesn't it?

I have $18 to my name, and no hope of any income (I was turned down for an unemployment extension.) I am terrified, and personally don't give a rat's ass if they are watching their poor little rich boys (and girls) suffer. It's partly their ******* fault that the economy is crap.

Some of us are just trying to survive. There should be a ban on this drivel...on the web and in the papers. (BTW, New York Times...shame on you for covering this crap!)

Is this for real? I mean, they are not kidding, right? There are actually women like that?

Ok, I really read the blog and realize that they really are just poking fun at their "expenses". It's actually kind of funny when you think about it.

    I don't think it's real.
