WWII US Army HQ Camouflaged as a Pile of Rubbish

By Alex in Pictures, Weapons & War on Jan 26, 2009 at 11:51 am

Just a pile of rubbish? Would you believe that it’s actually a US Army HQ during World War II, disguised by architect Sir Basil Spence?

StrangeHarvest has a couple of interesting photos of such military deceptions from Masquerade: The amazing camouflage deceptions of World War II by Seymour Reit.

I’d heard about the fake city before, but this is new to me. Thinking outside of the box definitely helped defeat the enemies then. It looks like the power lines are even going into the pile. Cool.

Didn’t the Hardy Boys have their HQ hidden in a trash dump as well? It’s been aeons since I read those books…
