Super-cool high-res pan-and-zoom inauguration pic

I love this great high-resolution pan-and-zoom picture of the Obama inauguration. I wish I'd been there!

Post a comment if you find anything neat/strange/unusual/cool tucked away in the crowd somewhere.

Don't know what was just said in the photo, but Biden and Feinstein are applauding while Bush and Cheney looked pained. What is Bush holding?

I still find the visual absence of military/security personnel rather surprising. Where are they? We know they're there ... somewhere. There are a few snipers on distant roof-tops, but I can't find a gun in the whole place!

Strange? Obama has no shame inviting his outerspace companions and putting them in VIP seats:

Obamania:

George W. Bush inauguration cost ~$40,000,000 - 70,000,000 (depending on source) for an attendance of ~300,000 people. This equals ~$133-$233/attendee

Barack Obama's inauguration is estimated at ~$150,000,000 for anywhere from 1.5 million to 2 million. This equals only ~$75-$100/attendee

Was either inauguration worth the expense? I'll leave that for others to decide, but as far as the expense per attendee goes ... Obama seems to have made a better investment.

I found some more of the "aliens" from comment 7. They probably moved when the pic was being taken. Or they are aliens, one of those has to be right. There is a guy next to (John Conyers?) right above O's head. If you look to the left of him to the little lady, above her is a guy who looks like he is looking at the camera in surprise. Like he knows the picture is being taken. And he looks like Sloth. Bush and Cheney look jealous. And why do they have really nice chairs and almost everyone else, including Papa Bush, have those uncomfortable folding chairs. Can you say Equality?

- Clarence Thomas is asleep.
- I'm pretty sure CW Louise Slaughter is asleep too. Or they caught her at the exact point that she closed her eyes and tilted her head.
- Someone 6 rows behind Thomas is completely passed out.
- Jenna Bush's husband isn't even sitting next to her.
- Lots of blue blankets. I wonder if they have any inauguration markings or the Presidential seal.
- There's another women with a huge bow on her hat a few rows behind Aretha.
- Way too many tacky Burberry scarves.
- Yo-Yo Ma is taking a photo with his iPhone 1G.
- There's a really hot blond sitting all alone.

Just to put it in perspective, last I heard, the US was spending at least twice as much per day in Iraq.

The expenditure does make me wonder if we wouldn't be better off doing this in the White House with maybe just the outgoing Prez and the new First Family. Televise the thing for the rest of the folks. This would hurt my feelings none. I wonder if people would go for this?

I suppose we wouldn't have to spend so much if nobody wanted to see these things. Several hundred thousand heads converging on one spot are simply going to incur public costs.

Easterbunny slim, the guy you picked out is secret service, he's talking into his sleeve... the motorola covert surveillance headset/mike has the microphone part right at the end of the right shirtsleeve and the button is actuated exactly as his hand is.

there are some feet with no body under the tower in the audience. and half of a person a little below that. it looks like they may be his feet...

Couple of things:
On the roof of the white building, there is a filmer holding what either looks to be a Gatoraid (Product Placement???) or... he knew before-hand he would be waiting there for quite a while.
Second: From the tower, follow the path, look left (Still along the path), keep going 2-3 rows, there is a woman ignoring everything going on, just typing on her lap-top, sitting left/up of a person in a WONDERFUL touque (yes, the one saying "Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama.....")

Headless man: Find blue covered camera on right side of upper seating. Move up 'till you run out of people.

Directly down from that, under the very first glass lamp, to the left, there is a guy with his hat sliced off and moved over a foot.

Denzel Washington is directly in front (to the left in this pic) of the large viewing tower, down the aisle, in a blue winter hat. Behind him is P. Puffy Diddy Daddy Combs.

Nice photo, but sloppy stretching of the multiple images. Many examples are fairly easy to catch. Check out the edge of the white zoom lens in the foreground...part of it's missing. Many heads "severed" partially as well. Fun to catch the mistakes actually.

LOL at Gatorade product placement. Maybe that's where the millions came from. This is a seriously cool photo. As for people sleeping, I highly doubt it. Sometimes you just need to look down when you're sitting for stretches, especially if you're writing something down. Or Twittering.

interesting blog entry about cost of inauguration which seems to have been inflated by the media:

Also never mind that Iraq has cost well over $500B USD which comes to over $270M per day.

I love this sudden concern on the part of our conservative commentators re: the cost of the inauguration.

These are the folks who stood by cheering over the past eight years while a record surplus was magically transformed into a record deficit.

This transformation only happened as a result of 9/11, which was Bill Clinton's fault. Furthermore, had the Bush Administration not created a $10 trillion deficit over the past eight years, Saddam Hussein would have deployed one of the nuclear weapons from his vast arsenal against a major American city - probably New York.

Adam, you're sooo wrong. He would have deployed all 100 gazillion of his nukes, as well as the chemical and biological nightmare missile stuffs, but they would've all be aimed at Las Vegas. Sadaam hated Vegas.

Don't forget Palin blowing $120,000 of campaign money on clothes, and another $40,000 for her Hubby. If McCain won, the inauguration would involver her flying down in a blimp shaped into a golden Jesus. I actualy wish they did win, I like the progessive human suffering that could have taken place, and gotten a good laugh in the process.

Sorry to break it to your conservatives. The total cost of Bush's inauguration in 05' is as follows.

When the costs incurred by the federal government and the District of Columbia are factored in, the total cost of Bush's 2005 inauguration was reportedly around $157 million, as Media Matters for America senior fellow Eric Boehlert noted.
http://mediamatters.org/items/200901180003

Also, the total out of pocket costs for Obama's inauguration was only $45 million. Not $80 million or whatever that idiot said.

So yeah, the conservatives lose again. Losers

There's a guy in the crowd talking on his cellphone when he SHOULD be listening to the speech of the century. Don't ask me where he is, I'll never find it again...

Wow, you guys'll argue about everything, won't you?

I just wonder if having that many severed heads at your inauguration is a good omen or a bad one?

what a privileged balcony, just left the photographer's place. 'Best seat on the house'

Great view and only a wheelchair man with a yellow scarf, a woman in black and a third man not interested in what's happening bellow.

The same balcony on the other side, is full of people

At the bottom of the stairs from the draped entryway, look to the right of the screen and some lady has a mysterious floating toupee on her head...ironically, look down and to the left at the guy with the black, probably real one...

OMG! I found THE THING from The Addams Family!
If you zoom in on Obama and go left, following the stars and stripes banner to the light post on the corner, then look up and to the left at one of the (it looks like a security guy) He's being accosted by THE THING!! LOL

CNN had something kind of like this, they took viewer photos uploaded to their site and used some software tool to make multiple 3D images of the event!!

Now this is neat. Gore looks none too happy about something. He doesn't seem to be with the crowd in giving applause to whatever the messiah just said.

Barbara and George Sr. have some pretty cool (well, actually warm) headgear. George Sr. looks like a coyote is sleeping on his head. Barbara looks like they were just leaving the house, realized it was going to cold and she grabbed someone else's ear muffs out of the glove box.

2-3 rows in front of the photographer, to the left (right in front of a guy standing) there is green tape on one of the hand rails. Someone wrote..."2 stagehands walk into a bar...the second one..." and I can't make out the rest. Anyone know the rest of that joke?
