It seems a little extreme, but we eat vomit and insects and mold all the time.
Honey – regurgitated bee nectar (it’s enzymes in the bee’s stomach that makes it into honey)
Cheese – Moldy milk
Mushrooms / beer – mold
Prawns/lobster – Basically sea insects

The POO thing is the extreme bit.

The thing that is nasty is that they’re eating MAGGOT POO!!! That’s why it’s so creamy and BLEH.
It’s like those weirdos who want to drink coffee after the beans have been pooped out by goats or whatever. Nasty sickos. It’s POO. It’s coming out for a reason!

I know this sounds crazy, but my Czech friends mom and dad love this stuff! They can only get it in Czech, but according to her its an aquired taste, even when you dismiss the maggot factor

This maggot cheese has been all over mental floss for the last couple of months, now neatorama. We get it, the maggot cheese is yucky. The maggots will put your eyes out. Bad maggot cheese.

In case anyone’s wondering, the documentary explains that casu marzu can’t be acquired legally. The sale of the cheese is forbidden because it can be toxic – apparently the name “cheese fly” is completely made up and the flies used to get the maggots feed on anything fleshy, even dead animals.

So, yeah.
