Wow, this was written a while back but still very useful information especially about Morton Salt, which is the topic of my recent blog post at http://brandliciousblog.com. However, I wonder why the company has not updated the Umbrella Girl image since 1968! It’s now 2010 so I think it’s time to update the image soon.

I’ve seen both the 1972 and 1957 versions of the Quaker logo here in Canada.

I don’t have any Quaker products in front of me, but I think maybe the 1972 logo is currently used as a small logo up near the top or on the back near the small print, while the 1957 gets prime real estate up front.

The “Quaker Guy” does appear on the front packaging of many Quaker products but the official company logo resides on the side of the package with the company info

Betty Crocker has always looked more like a lady running for mayor or Gongress than a home keeper. The Aunt Jemima character has much more credibility. I would think a Betty Crocker that looks more like the average woman ( a little heavier, and not in business clothes )would be the way to go, but I guess it wasn’t product tested with male shoppers.

I have a bag of Quaker oats in my pantry that aren’t very old… and it’s all 1957 logo. As has been said, that’s the logo I’ve always known. Could it be a Canadian thing?

As for the Marilyn Chambers legend – not Gerber, but Ivory Snow was the box she was on.

I’d always heard that legendary adult film star Marilyn Chambers was a model for the Gerber baby. Guess that was an urban legend. How ironic would that be though. Wholesome and pure meet… er… not pure anyways.

Seriously? That is so dumb. Why is it such a crime to have a white person on stuff anymore? Jeeze… the lady started out white, why change it? If anything shouldn’t changing her race be more offensive than leaving it? I’m all for being PC, but some things just get taken to a stupid level.
